Burns
Whenever an accident happens, the injured person must be given medical aid before doctor's arrival. This immediate help given to an injured person is called first aid. It is very essential and can save the life of the injured person.
1.     Pour cold water immediately on the burn till the burning sensation stops.

2.     You can keep an ice or cold water pack on the burn.

3.     If a person's clothes catch fire, make the person roll on the floor.

4.     Protect the burn from dust, dirt, flies etc. Cover it with a thin and light cotton cloth.
Insect Bite
1.     Pour cold water immediately on the burn till the burning sensation stops.

2.     You can keep an ice or cold water pack on the burn.

Heat Stroke
1.     Make the person lie down in a shady place.

2.     Remove clothing.

3.     In case of high fever a cold spnge is helpful.

4.     Patient should be lying down with feet elevated, if possible.

5.     Give the patient a solution of salt, sugar and lime. You can also give the juice of
         an unripe mango.
Bleeding Nose
1.     Make the patient lie down with his head in a lower position than the body.

2.     Pour cold water on the patient's head.

3.     A cold pack can be put on the nose.
Sprain
1.     Use a cold ice - pack.

2.     Ointments such as Iodex or Relaxyl can be lightly rubbed over the sprained joint
         two or three times a day.

3.     A crepe bandage can be wrapped around the sprained joint to support the joint.

4.     A sprained joint should not be moved to make it heal faster.
Fracture
1.     Keep the patient calm and comfortable and then call the doctor immediately.

2.     Take a magazine,  piece  of  cardboard  or  wood, or  a  pillow. Tie  it  around  the
         fractured part. This acts as a splint and prevents movement of the broken bone.

3.     If the patient has to be moved, he should be carried on a stretcher.

4.     Get an X-Ray of the fractured part immediately.
Toothache
1.     A clove of garlic with a little rock salt should be placed on the affected tooth.

2.     Avoid eating food which will result in the formation of acid in the mouth.

3.     Brush teeth regularly with a fluoride toothpaste.

4.     If severe, consult a dentist.
Chocking
1.     Encourage the patient in hope of dislodging the object.

2.     Once the casuality is too tired to cough anymore up to ten back slaps can be given.

3.     Stand behind the person. Wrap your arms around the waist. Tip the person forward
         slightly.

4.     Make a fist with one hand. Position it slightly above the person's navel.

5.     Grasp the fist with the other hand. Press hard into the abdomen with a quick,
         upward thrust — as if trying to lift the person up.

6.     Repeat until the blockage is dislodged.
Cough
1.     Coughs can be treated with cough medicines.

2.     Gargling with salt and warm water can also be very helpful by cutting phlegm and
         reducing inflammation.

3.     Avoiding of mucous-producing foods can be effective in healing a cough condition.

4.     If severe, consult a doctor.
